Sugar…Ah, honey, hunny

Making dinner calls for a cocktail. This time, I went with a Pomegranate (Strawberry) Gin Sling:

Pomegranate Strawberry Gin Sling

Strawberry is in parentheses, up there, because while the recipe below calls for agave or simple syrup, I made some strawberry simple syrup recently, so figured why not? Let’s go crazy!

Location: Queens Landing.
Beverage: Pomegranate Gin Sling Bombay Sapphire Gin, POM wonderful pomegranate juice, homemade strawberry simple syrup, lime juice.
Vessel: Confetti painted martini glass. Macy’s.

The Pomegranate Gin Sling:

  • 2 oz. gin
  • 2 oz. pomegranate juice
  • 1 tablespoon agave or simple syrup
  • 1 lime wedge, squeezed
  • Pomegranate arils (we didn’t have those)
  • lime slices

Combine and divide into two chilled glasses. Garnish with lime slices, or don’t, if you’re too lazy like me.

Wild Wolf Blonde Hunny

Next up was a can of Blonde Hunny from Wild Wolf Brewing (Virginia, represent!). An unfiltered Belgian style blonde ale, brewed with honey and spices.

I rather liked it but the fiancé, Mr. A, thought it was too sweet. If you like Unibroue’s La Fin Du Monde, you might want to give this a try.

Location: Queens Landing.
Style: Blonde Ale – Belgian Blonde/Golden.
ABV: 6.8%
IBU: 21

Mr. A felt he needed to prepare himself for a night in watching college football (woo pig sooie!). Rather than pull one can out of the fridge at a time, beers were on deck:

All the beers

To be fair, one of those beers was only about 1/3 full, after some earlier sampling. Hopefully you’re already familiar with America and America Light, so I’ll focus in on the pink/white can to the left of that sweet, star spangled can:

Passion Fruit Pinner by Oskar Blues out of Colorado. The can says “Sip, Sip, Pass” and that’s precisely what I did: pass. In general, I’m not a fan of hoppy beers, and that’s what this one was: hoppy and a bit sour. #notmyjam.

Oskar Blues describes this one as “clean malts, with hints of toasted biscuit pair[ed] with zesty hops to spice up the taste and aromas from pureed Passion Fruit and a small spike of pureed Blood Orange.” I dunno, I’m not into IPAs (my relatives in San Diego are probably crossing themselves and accusing me of blasphemy right now). That citrus is undeniable though!

Location: Queens Landing.
Style: IPA – Session/India Session Ale.
ABV: 4.9%
IBU: 40

What did these beers go with? This stuff right here:

Blue Cheese and Green Onion-Crusted Bone-In Pork Chop

Blue Cheese and Green Onion-Crusted Bone-In Pork Chop with Green Beans Almondine!

We had a Home Chef delivery recently, and unfortunately didn’t make this last dish as soon as we should have, which is why there are so few green beans on that plate. I had to sort the…shall we say, less than desirable beans out. Delicious dish though.

Home Chef has some great recipes, but I’m not totally on board yet. We’ve tried Hello Fresh before, and I think the quality of the produce was a bit better, but I can honestly say I’ll hold onto the Home Chef recipe cards and hope to make these recipes again.
